Junior Ray Jennings, May 14, 1933-June 2, 2022, passed away after a lengthy period of declining health. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years (Shirley Dewberry Jennings), his mother and father (Stanley and Gertrude Jennings), brother (Bobby Jennings), sister (Betty Jean Jennings) and daughter and son-in-law (Teresa and Glen Garner). He is survived by his five sisters (Dorothy Jennings, Nancy Jennings Motley, Joyce Cundiff, Jane Moore and Geneva Smithers Stone), six children (Cheri Jennings Hamlett, Karla Alphin, Sonia Osborne, Daniel Jennings, Timothy Jennings and Stephen Jennings), step-daughter (Sharon Eldridge Bohannon) and 10 grandchildren. A native of Danville, Va, he spent 46 years employed by Dan River, Inc. before retiring in 2002. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served four years aboard the USS Oak Hill LSD-7 where he participated in the first test of the hydrogen bomb with Operation Ivy. A long time reader and student of the Scriptures his great hope was summed up in the words of the Apostle Paul when he said "there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust (Ac 24:15)." A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, June 5th, 2022 at Highland Burial Park Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Townes Funeral Home is serving the Jennings family.
