Ralph Dorr, 93, of 316 Southland Drive, died on April 22, 2013, at Emeritus of Danville. He was born August 27, 1919, in Greenville, South Carolina, the fifth child of John Henry and Martha Aurelia Elrod Dorr. On December 7, 1941 he married Ethel M. Folsom, who died August 11, 2011. Ralph is survived by four children, Harriette Dorr Saunders, of High Point, North Carolina, Robert David Dorr, of Ringgold, Virginia, Thomas Melton Dorr, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Richard Douglass Dorr, of Martinsville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Carl David Dorr, of Danville, Courtney Noel Saunders Osborne, of Hickory, North Carolina, Julie Nicole Dorr Turner, of Wichita, Kansas, David Matthew Dorr, of Richmond, Virginia; and two grandsons, Juda Stone Turner, of Wichita, Kansas, and Owen Taylor Dorr, of Richmond, Virginia. Ralph is also survived by a sister, Ruth Dorr Malendoski, of Greenville, South Carolina. Ralph was a veteran of World War II, having served five years in the United States Army. His first career was with Eastern Air Lines, coming to Danville as Station Manager with EAL in 1952. He was with Eastern until 1962, when he joined the administration of Averett College, now University, as business manager. His career at Averett culminated with his retirement in 1984. Ralph was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher, deacon and treasurer of the church, as well as other leadership roles through the years. He was also active in community organizations and was a past president of the Rotary Club of Danville. His hobby was tennis, and he continued to play regularly into his 90th year. A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church, 2:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be private. The family requests that memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church, 871 Main Street, Danville, Virginia 24541.
