Rachel Dowdy

Rachel Frances Dalton Dowdy of Danville, VA passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born June 3, 1942 in Chatham, VA to Reuben and Betty Neal Dalton, who predeceased her. She was married to Augustus Dowdy, Jr., the love of her life, September 28, 1968.  He predeceased her last year, but now she’s in heaven with him and at Jesus’s feet. She is survived by her loving daughter, Paula Lynn Rice and husband Randy Rice of Danville.  Also surviving are her pride and joys Zach Rice and Hannah Rice (Fiancé Cameron Barber).  Her grandchildren were her gifts from God, and she loved them greatly. She is survived by sisters Shirley Carter and Anna Cook of Danville.  She was predeceased by brothers B. D. Dalton and Ed Dalton, sisters Gladys Pugh, Dorothy Newman, Marie Carter and Barbara Shelton. Surviving also is her special friend and caregiver Annette Crosby, and Jennifer Pruitt who helped her in so many ways. She was a member of Shady Oak Baptist Church and was a Gideon Auxiliary member. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening August 7, 2018 from 7 to 8:30 at Shady Oak Baptist Church, 1739 Walters Mill Road, Providence, NC  27315. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. also at Shady Oak Baptist Church by Pastor Kenneth Hammock.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends may visit at other times at her residence at 572 Jenny Lane.
