Rachel Scearce Dabney of 216 Andover Place, Danville, Virginia peacefully entered her heavenly home on Saturday, January 13, 2024 with family by her side. Born on May 6, 1941, she was the third daughter of the late Adelbert Lee Scearce and Helen Atkinson Scearce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank David Dabney, sister Juanita Scearce Almon and foster brother Jerry Thurman Stone.
Rachel is survived by her sister Marie Scearce Turner of Lynchburg, VA, nephew Clinton Turner (Kendra) of Lynchburg, VA, niece Rebecca Dixon (David) of Silver Spring, MD, niece Amy Turner (Chris) and Amy’s two sons Phoenix and Adrian Pribble of Lynchburg, VA, niece Jennifer Fennell (Shawn) of Manteo, NC, and nephew Jarrett Stone (Amber) of Callands, VA along with a host of cousins and extended family.
Rachel lived most of her life in Danville, VA. She was an honor graduate of Brosville High School in 1959. In her early teens, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church for most of her life. She had a profound love for her family, friends, church, and Lord.
Rachel created a career within the legal field that included working as a paralegal for Charles Warren Jr. and Calvin Fowler. She later served as Mr. Fowler’s assistant legislative aide during his years of service for Danville in the Virginia House of Delegates. In 2007, she married longtime friend Frank Dabney at Woodlawn Baptist Church and together they lived in God’s grace for 12 years until his death in 2019.
Visitation will be held from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Wednesday January 17th at Townes Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday January 17, 2023 at 1:00pm at Townes Memorial Chapel. A private burial for family will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. Rachel requested her memory could be honored with donations to Disabled American Veterans.
