Polly Scott

October 30, 1920 — February 24, 2016

Polly Haymes Scott, 95, of Danville, passed from this life Wednesday, February 24, 2016, after a decline in health since August 2015. She was born October 30, 1920, in Ringgold, Virginia. Mrs. Scott was employed by Thalhimers Dept. Store and later First Citizen’s Bank, where she retired. She was a member of College Park Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary and Secretary/Treasurer of the WMU for 46 years. She was a graduate of Dan River High School and Averett College. She was predeceased by her husband Maynard Willard Scott, her father and mother, John Lindsey Haymes and Virginia Clark Haymes; and sisters, Eloise Haymes Saunders, and Frances Haymes Gourley. She is survived by her son, Willard L. “Bill” Scott; daughters, Gloria S Van Allen (Chuck), and Virginia Ann “Ginny” Slade (Jerry). She is also survived by five grand children, 14 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters, Nancye Haymes Rhodenhiser and Martha Haymes Thomas. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016, from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at College Park Baptist Church followed by a 3 p.m. Funeral Service at the same location. Interment and committal service at Highland Burial Park will follow the funeral service. Services will be conducted by the Reverend Doctor “CAM” McIntire and the Reverend Archer McIntire. The family thanks the staff of DRMC and Riverside Health Care for their loving care of their loved one. In-lieu-of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the “General Fund” of College Park Baptist Church or the charity of their choice. Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Scott family.
