Peggy Hess

Peggy Gene (Gibson) Hess, 88, longtime resident of Danville, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Roman Eagle Rehab and Health Care Center. She was born on February 15, 1927 in Charlottesville, VA to the late W. Edward Gibson and Callie Louise (Beaton) Gibson. On September 2, 1949, she married W.L. (Bill) Hess of Danville, who preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Hess attended Mary Washington College and the University of Virginia and graduated with a BS from Averett College in 1987. She was a Registered Medical Technologist, working in the medical field for many years in Danville. She sang in the choir of the First Baptist Church, where she was a member. Mrs. Hess was a member of the Wednesday Club, the Wayside Garden Club, and a lifetime member of the Virginia State Garden Club. Mrs. Hess is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kay Hess Grogg of Johnson City, TN (Sam), and Meg Hess (Peter Lacey) of Nashua, NH, three grand-daughters, Lindsay Grogg, Lacy Grogg Pugh and her husband Taylor, and Keziah Hess Lacey, and one great-granddaughter, Madelyn Pugh. The oldest of five children, Mrs. Hess is survived by her brother, sister, and their spouses: W. E.(Anne) Gibson,Jr. of Yorktown, VA and Martha Gibson Archer (Ashton) of Lignum, VA. She is predeceased by sisters Beverly Gibson Walker and Patsy Gibson Ramsey. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff at Roman Eagle, who provided attentive, thoughtful, and loving care to Mrs. Hess for many years. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 in Mountain View Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend John Carroll officiating. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 871 Main Street, Danville, VA 24541. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Hess family.
