Pauline Humphrey

January 25, 1950 — May 10, 2023

Henrietta Pauline Byrd Humphrey formerly of 280 West Main Street, Danville, VA passed away on Wednesday May 10, 2023, at Sovah Health Danville. “Polly Byrd” as she was affectionately called had been in declining health for several months.

Polly was born in Danville on January 25, 1950, to the late Dr. Allen Byrd and Henrietta Pauline Barnes Byrd. She grew up in Danville and was a graduate of Geroge Washington High School and completed a gap year at Highland School for Girls in Florida. She attended Stratford College where she studied education. Polly was always an ardent supporter of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. She was a former member of the Junior Wednesday Club (Past President), Wednesday Club, Lady Astor Garden Club, Wayside Garden Club, and Garden Club of Danville. She also served for many years on the Danville Mental Health Association Board.

Polly was born into First Baptist Church and grew up as an active member. Later in life she became a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Danville and referred to herself as an “Episco-Baptist.” She was a woman of strong faith and always wanted her Bible close to her in her final years.

In addition to her parents, Polly was predeceased by an infant brother, and her husband C.H. Humphrey. Polly is survived by her only child, Allen Byrd Humphrey, of Forest Virginia, and many, many friends.
No matter where or how you knew Polly, she was a loving, caring, and happy friend. Her light and laughter in life brought joy to many. Allen and her close friends will forever miss and cherish her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
