Paula Cochran Collie, 82 of Danville, Virginia, passed away July 9, 2022, at home surrounded by family and friends after a short period of declining health. She was born December 17, 1939, in Danville, the daughter of the late Loraine Blades Cochran and Paul Devon Cochran. She was the middle child of three girls. She married Bobby Carroll Collie on July 4, 1958. Paula graduated from Averett College in 1972 with a Bachelor’s in Education and earned a Master’s in Education from the University of Virginia in 1977. She was a sixth-grade language arts teacher at Brosville Elementary School for many years. Later in her career she became a resource teacher working with the Gifted Students in Pittsylvania County Public Schools. After retirement she was an adjunct professor at Averett University and mentored many new teachers. She was an active member of Vandola Baptist Church, and served as President of the Luncheon Pilot Club of Danville and the Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, which promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. She is survived by her son Willis Glenn Collie and her granddaughter Casey Devon Collie, also of Danville, and her sisters Buddy Lee Gray of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Carole Ann Thomas of Greenville, NC. She was pre-deceased by her husband Bobby Carroll Collie and her son Robert Devon Collie. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Vandola Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 1-2 pm. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
