Patricia Martin Nuckols passed away in her home on August 26, 2015, of natural causes. She was born in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Alvah and Geneva Martin and was a beloved mother, sister, and teacher. She is survived by her daughter Andrea and her husband R. Bud Harris of Lynchburg, VA; her son Bryan Nuckols and his wife Kate of Dallas, TX; her sister Marsha and her husband C. Bruce Williams of Wilmington, NC; and her former husband Ralph Nuckols of Greensboro, NC. Pat graduated from Big Creek High School in 1968 attended college at Bluefield College and then graduated from Averett College with a Bachelor's Degree in 1972. She taught for 30 years in Pittsylvania County schools, including Union Hall Elementary, Mt. Hermon Elementary, Central Middle, and Tunstall Middle. Throughout her career, Pat sponsored and taught many student activities including Beta Club, Drama Club, Piedmont Regional Summer Governors School, Gifted and Talented Classes, and tutored many students. She was awarded Teacher of the year in 1994 and was recognized for being Virginia State Beta Sponsor from 1997-1999. Pat retired in 2010 and has since enjoyed reading, spending time with family, traveling, and volunteering. She also loved children and animals. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 2nd from 6 to 7 pm at Townes Funeral Home. A memorial service will also be held at Townes Funeral Home, on Thursday, September 3rd at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made a charity of choice.
