Pamela Thompson

September 1, 1944 — March 31, 2023

Pamela Rawley Thompson of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 in Waycross, GA at her daughter’s residence. Although very unexpected, Pam died peacefully after spending her last hours with family.

Pam was born in Danville, VA to the late Charles Ernest Rawle, Jr. and Mary Lee Wiggins Rawley. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Alice Jane Rawley Long. Pam is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bobby Ray Thompson, Sr. of Lynchburg; one son, Bobby Ray Thompson, Jr. (Jennifer) of Marvin, NC, one daughter, Kimberly Thompson Brown of Waycross, GA, three grandchildren, Mia Skylar Brown and Tre Brown of Waycross, GA and Tyson Riley Thompson of Marvin, NC, and one brother, Charles Ernest Rawley, III (Janice).

Pam grew up in Danville, VA, enjoying activities such as dancing, being head of the Kiltie Corp, going to the movies, and going on dates with Bob. She was a proud member of the George Washington High School Class of 1964. Upon completion of high school, Pam attended Averett College, where she successfully completed her secretarial certificate.

Pam and Bob were married in September of 1964, and then moved to Denver, Colorado while Bob was serving in the U.S. Air Force. After Bob returned from serving in the Philippines, they stayed a short time in Danville before moving to Lynchburg in 1969.

While in Lynchburg, Pam worked at Lynchburg College, Frances Denny, and Centra Health. She retired from Centra Health after 18 years as the Administrative Secretary for the School of Education. She enjoyed the many people she met there and connections she made that later helped take care of her during her many stays in the hospital.

Pam was a very devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She supported tennis, football, basketball, band, volleyball, baseball, and soccer whether in person on the courts or fields or by phone and Facetime. She loved going on trips with her children and grandchildren, with Myrtle Beach being one of her favorite destinations.

Pam was an active member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. She attended Sunday school, church services, and sang in the choir. Pam loved collecting items throughout the year to pack the Christmas shoeboxes collected by the church. She also enjoyed volunteering for Vacation Bible School and giving to the Red Truck Ministry. She met many wonderful, supportive friends during her time at the church.
The family would like to thank all of the many friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, and family for all of their love and support over the many years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Red Truck Ministry, 5225 Fort Ave, Suite A, Lynchburg, VA, 24502, or A New Beginning Church, P.O. Box 912, Ludowici, GA, 31316, in honor of Pam Thompson.
