Otha G. Taylor age 98 passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, after a brief illness. Mr. Taylor, a lifelong resident of Danville is survived by his wife, Bonnie P. Taylor, a daughter Arline T. Dawson and her husband Phil of Stephens City , Virginia ,a stepson Ken Pritchard and his wife Katrina of Portsmouth, Virginia ,grandson, Ward Dawson and his wife Aleece of Plantation, Florida and grandson Kent Dawson and his wife Delisa of Houston, Texas. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances V. Taylor, a sister, Ethel Wall and brothers Raymond and Russell Taylor. He served with the 29th division in WWII participating in The D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Presbyterian Church serving as both Elder and Deacon at Bethany Presbyterian and more recently as a member of Unity Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Roman Eagle Masonic Temple for 56 years. After many years of service, he retired from the United States Post Office in 1982. Until health prevented it, he loved to play golf. Always a sports fan, he enjoyed watching all forms of sports on T.V. He especially liked to follow the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed keeping up with world events and always knew what was going on in the world. Most importantly, Mr. Taylor was a wonderful husband, father grandfather, brother and friend. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend John Losee officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Townes Funeral Home from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
