Ollie Allen Henderson Yates passed away Friday, September 14 at the age of 101. She was born in Mecklenberg County, Virginia on April 18, 1917. She was predeceased by her husband, Vernell Taft Henderson, and one son, Timothy Carragher Henderson. She is survived by one daughter, Verla Henderson Wall (husband, Jesse) of Blanch, NC; one daughter-in-law, Betty Bradner Henderson of Altamonte Springs, Florida; three granddaughters, E. Morgan Wall of Stockholm, Sweden, Susan Henderson Gillotti (husband, Chris) of Houston, Texas, and Dana Henderson Jickell (husband, Tony) of Altamonte Springs, Florida; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Ollie was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church from 1934 until its closing. She was active as a circle member and choir member and was an ordained elder. Ollie was a recent member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and joined her friends and family members there. She worked at Dan River Mills’ accounting department, retiring after 42 years of service. She was later financial coordinator for Jesse R. Wall, D.D.S. P.C., taking her second and final retirement at age 99. A service will be held Saturday, September 22 at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the church at 2:00 p.m. the same day. Burial will follow at Highland Burial Park. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church Music Fund or the Danville Life Saving Crew.
