Olga Floyd

September 18, 1927 — May 3, 2023

Olga Jane Carson Floyd passed away peacefully on May 3, 2023, while residing at Assisted Living at CSL - Stratford, Danville, Va. Born on September 18, 1927, in Ayden, NC, she was the daughter of J. Edwin Carson and Elinor Edwards Carson. Growing up in Danville, Olga graduated from G.W. High School (1945), and Averett Junior College (1947), after which she married the returning WWII veteran, Robert K Floyd, in December 1947.

In 1951, when Bob was re-called to military service, Olga, and their young daughter Patricia, accompanied him to Wiesbaden, Germany, and they returned to Danville in late 1952, having added their second daughter, Pamela, to the family. In 1959, after the addition of a son, Robert, Jr., the Floyds settled into their newly built home on Rambler Dr, where Olga held the role of dedicated homemaker until the loss of Bob, the love of her life, in 2017.

Until its closure in 2019, Olga was a lifelong member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she faithfully volunteered in the Women’s Mission Circle. In later years, she attended West Main Baptist Church. Her community activities included memberships in the Wayside Garden Club, the Wednesday Club, Ballou Park duplicate bridge, and the Women’s Golf Association of Danville Golf Club. Throughout her life, Olga enjoyed sports including bowling, tennis, and golf, which was her favorite for over fifty years. Along with Bob, she loved golf trips to Myrtle Beach, and together they traveled to Europe, Asia, Central America, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as Canada and across the US.

In addition to her parents, Olga was predeceased by her brother, Ed Carson, Jr. and sister-in-law Jean Carson. Left to cherish her memory are children: Pat Floyd (Kate) of Newfield, NY, Pam Pulley (Glenn) of Danville, and Robert Floyd, Jr. (Michele) of Roanoke; three grandsons are J. Carson Pulley (Evelyn), Drew W. Pulley (Hannah), and Rob Floyd, III (Catherine), and three great grandchildren: Bess, Tommy, and Walter. Also surviving are her brother, Will Carson, and her first cousin, Elizabeth McCune, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Olga’s family expresses gratitude to the dedicated staff of CSL-Stratford, and to special private caregivers Nannie and Helen, and to Laura and Julie, of Commonwealth Hospice.
