Norman Frederick Dillon, Jr. 68, passed away Friday afternoon, February 7, 2014 in the Danville Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Vinton, VA, on October 31, 1945, a son of the late N. Fred Dillon and Barbara Pedigo Dillon, who survives. Norman was a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Business Management. He was retired from Sears after 35 years of service (October 1969 - November 2004) holding positions on district staff level Product Services. Norman had served in the Virginia National Guard. He was a member of First Baptist Church having served as a deacon and chairman of the Audio Visual Committee. He was also a member of the Sears Retiree Breakfast Club, Southside Virginia Geocachers and Rivah Country Geocachers and served as Treasurer of Grove Park Recreational Center, Inc. In addition to his mother, Norman is survived by his wife of 44 years Lynn Grine Dillon; a daughter Robin Dillon Shepherd and her husband Daniel; a brother Kevin Lee Dillon and his wife Julie; four brothers-in-law, Dr. Donald R. Grine and his wife Joan, Major Michael Grine, Ret., Dr. Pete Grine and Kimball Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Martha Nygaard and her husband Dale, and Pat Grine; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. In addition to his father he was predeceased by two sisters, Jane Falls and Betty Sue Johnson. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM from Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton, VA, with the Reverend Dr. Chris Monroe officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Townes Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541.
