Norma Jean Adams passed away on February 11, 2021 at the age of 90. She was born in 1930 to Benjiman and Alease Herndon. She was married to Earl Adams who preceded her in death. She lived in Danville, VA and resided in the same residence since she was 18 months old. She was a Godly woman with a servant’s heart. Serving her Lord and Savior brought great joy to her life. She gave of herself to her family and community with unwavering love and commitment. She faced adversity with grace and resilience leaving an inspirational example for others to follow in her wake. She was a life member of the Salvation Army. She served as the Corps Sgt. Major of the Danville Corps for nearly 5 decades. She was very active in the Angel Tree and Youth Program there. Leading the Sunday Worship Service was one of her most cherished roles. She was employed by King’s Department Store and later at Belk Leggett in security and loss prevention for many years. She also worked for the Danville Police Department for 63 years as a school crossing guard at Forest Hills Elementary School. She took great pride in that service and loved that generations of families knew her in that role. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her warm hugs and comforting demeanor. She is survived by her 5 children, Clarence Adams (Mary), Bobby Adams (Libby), Wanda Henderson (Gene), Tommy Adams and Dennis Adams; a total of 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Her family will mourn for the loss of her love and faithful presence. They will grieve for her warmth and content nature. They will miss her home cooking and especially her homemade red velvet cake. Despite the mourning, we celebrate her life and her long awaited homecoming into the arms of Jesus. A graveside service for family and friends will take place at 2p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Schoolfield Cemetery.
