Nora Moore Solomon passed away February 2, 2016 at Brookdale Retirement Home. She was born in Halifax County, Virginia on December 10, 1926. She was the daughter of Charles C. Moore and Ruby Moore of Sutherlin, Virginia. She grew up on the family tobacco farm and was the last surviving of nine children. She lived most of her life in Danville, Virginia. Nora was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, sung in the choir and taught Sunday school. Nora worked in a number of positions in the Danville community and retired as a supervisor at the Roman Eagle Nursing Home. Nora enjoyed singing and dancing and had a great sense of humor. She was always surrounded by friends and especially enjoyed her five grandchildren. She is survived by her son, James Michael Solomon, and his wife, Linda, of Greensboro, NC; her daughter, Terri Solomon Pettyjohn and her husband, John, of Lynchburg; grandchildren Andy, Jeffrey and Bryan Solomon, and Anna and Kemp Pettyjohn. Nora was married to Weldon Solomon, her husband of 66 years, who passed in 2013. A funeral service and celebration of life will be held Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Danville with the Rev. Charles Wickham officiating. Visitation will be held after the service in the church social hall. Interment will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Olive Branch United Methodist Church cemetery in Alton, Virginia. Afterward all friends are welcome to join the family at the farm in Nanny’s memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Olive Branch United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, or a charity of choice.
