Netta Fae Smith, 97, of Danville, passed away on Monday, Feb 26, 2024, after a period of declining health. Netta Fae was born in Athens, West Virginia on October 15, 1926, to the late Thomas A. Barbery and Ennis Grimm Barbery. She graduated from Concord College and married the late Charles C. Smith on August 7, 1946. In addition to her parents and husband, Netta Fae was also preceded in death by her daughter Martha Ann Smith and grandson Samuel Ross Oakes in addition to her brothers T.A. Barbery, James Barbery, Robert Barbery and her sister Mary Lou Reid.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters Barbara “Bunny” Eanes (Wayne), and Toni Oakes (Marty); her sister Dana Kee Birdsall (Frank); sister-in law Evelyn Barbery; her beloved grandchildren Katie Keyser (Dave), Martha Scruggs (Chad), Elayne Matherly (Willie), and Robert “Smitty” Oakes (Amy); and precious greatgrandchildren Evan, Molly and Cora.
Netta Fae was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Danville. She enjoyed being with her family, solving crossword puzzles and playing cards, especially bridge. She loved nature and was a bird enthusiast.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday March 4th, 2024, at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Elizabeth Broschart officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church.
