Nathan Junious Denning died peacefully in his sleep at home on January 16, 2022. He was 84. Born on October 30, 1937 in Sampson County, North Carolina to the late George Calhoun Denning and the late Flora Fields Denning. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Harriett Abbott Denning. Also predeceased by his sisters Edna Denning, Hilda Edwards and Lola Denning, all of Dunn, North Carolina, brother-in-law Larry Randall Abbott of Danville, Virginia, niece, Blake Tyler Abbott of Wilmington, North Carolina and his beloved loyal pet companion Honey. He is survived by son Robert Nathan Denning, daughter Annette Denning Willis (Tony) both of Danville, Virginia, grandson Coleman James Willis of Austin, Texas, niece Dale Webb Coats (Wayne) and their daughter Ashley of Dunn, North Carolina, family member Karen Jones Abbott of Danville, Virginia, nephew Cameron Grayson Abbott (Wendy) and children Madison and Grayson of Bristow, Virginia and brother-in-law Ed Edwards of Benson, North Carolina. Nathan was a general contractor, developer and owner of Abbott Construction Company Incorporated. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed gardening. Nathan was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was deeply devoted to his family. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. A Celebration of Life Service, to honor the lives of Nathan and his son Robbie, will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times will be at the residence of his daughter, 103 Forestroad Dr., Danville, VA, 24540.
