Nancy Spearman Collie, 76, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Born December 30, 1936 in Danville, VA she was the daughter of Walter Dean Spearman and Iris Adams Spearman. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. A graduate of Stratford College and the Department of Medical Technology of The Memorial Hospital, she was an avid bridge player, member of the Danville Duplicate Bridge Club, Main Street United Methodist Church, The Wednesday Club, Lady Astor Garden Club, Danville Little Theatre, Board Member of the YWCA and a longtime member of the Danville Golf Club. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas M. Collie, Jr. and her brother, Cpt. David Glen Spearman, USMC. Survivors include her children Deane Collie and her husband Robert F. Beard of Culpeper, VA, Thomas M. Collie, III of Atlanta, GA and James E. Collie and his wife Meg O'Connell of St. Augustine, FL, her brother, Roger Spearman and his wife Dianne of Williamsburg, VA, her grandchildren Emily Thomas Collie-Beard, Nancy Kent Collie-Beard and Avi Hatfield, her nieces Devon Spearman Greer, Allison Spearman Battista and Jill Spearman Knight and their families and numerous cousins. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 - 8 PM at Townes Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 2 PM at the former Main Street United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with a reception to follow at the residence.
