Nancy Clark Bailey departed this life just before dawn Saturday September 2nd, 2023, after several years of declining health.
Nancy was born in Danville, Virginia, July 1st, 1939, to the late James Leslie Clark and the late Frances Haraway Clark. She lived all of her life in Danville and was educated in Danville Public Schools, a proud member of the G.W.H.S. class of 1957, serving on the class reunion committee for 60 years.
In 1961 she was married to Wayles Miller Bailey who predeceased her in 1971.
Nancy had many careers in her working years, starting out as traffic director for WBTM radio, later as secretary to the City Sergeant, church secretary at First Baptist Church, and Cathedral of Praise, and loss prevention secretary for Leggett operations. In her 50’s she challenged herself by getting her insurance license, working for Blue Ridge Insurance, Foster Insurance and Riverside Insurance. But the job that meant the most to her was “Mom” to her boys.
Nancy is survived by her son William Leslie Bailey and wife Karen of Hagerstown MD, and her son Jeffrey Donald Bailey of Danville. Also surviving are many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her son David Andrew Bailey and her sister Patricia Clark Hill.
