Myrtle Rigney Staples "Miss Myrtle", 92, of 138 Kemper Road, earned her heavenly reward on April 11, 2013 at Piney Forest Health and Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident for the past 18 months. She was born October 9, 1920 in Danville, VA to the late Levi P. Rigney. Sr. and Otha Gentry Rigney. She lived all of her life in Danville where she was employed by Dan River Mills for over 65 years, working full-time until age 83. She was recognized in 1996 by the Southern Area Agency on Aging Senior Employment Training Services as the Danville City Older Employee of the Year. She was a former member of the Dan-Pitts-Chapter of ABWA and the Dixie Chicks Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was loved by all who knew her, and will always be remembered for her smile. She enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with her family. Survivors include four children, Patricia Staples Alderson and husband Archie of Danville, VA, David M. Staples and wife Carol of Durham, NC, Vickie Staples Trent of the residence, and Sylvia Staples Trent and husband Richard of Dry Fork, VA. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one sister Elsie Rigney Eanes of Danville, VA. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Milas Franklin Staples, and two brothers, Willie A. "Bill" Rigney and Levi P. "L. P'. Rigney, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Townes Memorial Chapel by the Reverend Dr. Paul Phillips with interment at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Townes funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Patricia, 1207 Kemper Road Ext.
