Miriam Doub Gregory of Java, VA went to her heavenly reward Sunday, October 13, 2013. Born April 10, 1919 in Raleigh, NC, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Poole Doub and former municipal judge Albert Doub, Sr. She was an alumnus of both Peace College and Meredith College in Raleigh. Miriam was first married to Fred Wellborn, Sr., who predeceased her in 1956. In January 1963, she was married to James B. Gregory, Sr. of Java, VA. In doing so, Miriam became stepmother to his three sons, and, along with her own son, she at once had a total of four boys. We are all so very blessed for her fifty years of giving of herself for our wellbeing, making our lives much better than they might otherwise have been. Miriam was tireless in her service to Shockoe Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, playing the piano and directing the choir for many years. She enjoyed reading, and cherished her years in the Chatham book club. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James B. Gregory, Sr., her brother Albert Doub, Jr., and her son Fred "Ted" Wellborn, Jr. Surviving are her daughter-in-law Jackie Wellborn of Spring Garden, her stepsons James Gregory, Jr. and wife Deborah, Sam Gregory and wife Caroline, Robert Gregory and wife Sue, all of the Java area; and twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Shockoe Baptist Church with the Reverend Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 15 at Shockoe Baptist Church from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and at other times will be at the residence, 1362 Henry's Mill Road, Java, VA.
