Milo Abercrombie

Milo Bolling Abercrombie III, 86 passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017. He was born on January 14, 1931 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Milo Bolling Abercrombie Jr. and Mallie Cade Abercrombie. He spent his childhood years in Greensboro, North Carolina. Milo was a graduate of Darlington School, Rome, Georgia and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Prior to graduating, he served in the United States Army. Milo began his career in the oil and gas industry in 1957. He accepted a job from his Uncle Charles Lane Abercrombie, Sr, founder of Abercrombie Oil Company. Upon Charlie Lane’s death in 1987 he became President of Abercrombie Oil Company until his retirement in 2016. He was named Virginia Oilman of the Year in 2001. He was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, the Danville Golf Club, Young Men’s Club and the German Club of Danville, as well as the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Henrietta Bell Abercrombie and his daughters Elizabeth A. Daniels and her husband Steve, Jane A. Eggleston and her husband Jim all of Danville and Martha A. Woodley of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren Taylor D. Wilhelm(Patterson), Mary Clayton E. McGee(Michael), Rebecca Bruce Daniels, James Bolling Eggleston, Helen Cade Woodley and Mary Milo Ogburn Woodley. He was predeceased by his grandson Steven Bruce Daniels, Jr. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 14 at 2:30pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, NC. The Family will be receiving friends at the residence, 134 Blackwell Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew.
