Mr. Millard Morton “Mort” Crumley, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in in Bristol, Tennessee on June 6, 1930 to parents Morton Lewis Crumley and Genevieve Haynes Crumley. He had one sister, Genevieve Crumley Settle, who predeceased him. Mort graduated from Virginia High School in Bristol, VA in 1947 and attended Emory and Henry College. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed at Fort Eustis,VA. He was married to Eleanor Stevens Crumley on January 10, 1954. The couple lived in Williamsburg,VA for two years before making their home in Danville,VA in 1960. He was manager of Beneficial Finance Company for 40 years before his retirement. Mort was a long time member of First Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and was a former Sunday School teacher. He also served on the Finance committee and other church committees. Mort was the past president of the Danville Exchange Club, and past president of the Travelers Protective Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Credit Union. Mort was an avid golfer and was a member of Tuscarora Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf with all his golf friends. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of 63 years. He was the loving father of four children and five grandchildren, all of whom survive. His children are Steven Lewis Crumley, John Millard Crumley, Carol Elizabeth Crumley Kueng, and son in law Robbie, and Laura Ann Crumley Childers, and son in law Preston. His grandchildren, who lovingly called him "DaDoo", are Joseph Bradley Lind, Jason Millard Lind, Elizabeth Claire Kueng, Anna Catherine Kueng, and Savannah Alley Childers. Mort was well loved by all who knew him for his kindness, easy going manner, sense of humor and Christian character. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at First Baptist Church with the Reverend John Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Townes Funeral Home from 6 PM to 8 PM and at other times at the residence at 1840 Franklin Turnpike.
