Michael Patrick Regan passed away July 15, 2024, at the age of 83. He was the son of Cornelius Francis Regan, Jr. and Marguerite Greene Cann Regan. He was born on February 22, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Susan Ann Light Regan, their son Michael Patrick Regan, Jr. and daughter-in-law Stephanie, of Jacksonville, FL, son Brian Christopher Regan of Danville, VA, and son, Mark Dennis Regan of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Marguerite Julia Regan of Sonoma, California and one grandchild, Michael Patrick Regan, III. He was predeceased by brothers Cornelius Francis Regan, III, John Dennis Regan, and Keven Christopher Regan, all of California. He was also predeceased by one grandchild, Michael David Regan, of Jacksonville, Fl.
Michael received a BA in English from the University of Notre Dame in 1963 and a JD from Albany Law School, Union University 1967. He started his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Albany County, NY. Then he tried his hand at private practice in the firm of Medwin and McMahon. His next venture led him to a position as a Corporate Attorney for Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam, NY. He loved forming and assembling Cort Furniture Rental Company for Mohasco Industries. He furthered his corporate career when he moved to Danville, VA in 1975, where he joined the Law Department of Dan River Inc. as an Assistant General Counsel. He became Associate General Counsel from 1981-1988, and General Counsel and Assistant Secretary in 1989. From 1990 to present he returned to private practice at the Law Offices of Michael P. Regan, PC. His private practice gave him great satisfaction and fulfillment because he was impacting the community.
Michael’s other passion was music, and he played clarinet and saxophone in various groups over the years. He played in the Starmont Swing Band, The Dance Notes, The Greensboro Philharmonia, The Danville Symphony Orchestra, the Tightsqueeze Philharmonic Orchestra, and he was a Rotary Musician when he was involved with Rotary.
When he was not working or playing music, Michael loved playing golf, cooking, reading, traveling, and sharing meals with family and friends. He could often be found in one of his favorite restaurants. Most of all, he loved spending time with his loving wife, Susan, his three children, and his grandson.
The funeral will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, with burial immediately following at Danville Memorial Gardens.
