On October 23, 2013, while surrounded by his family and friends who were graciously sharing their love and stories, Michael Potojecki, or better known as Pop-Pop passed away after a short, but intense battle with leukemia. 77 years to some may seem like forever, to some it may seem like a blink of an eye, but to Pop-Pop, 77 years was his shining lifetime where he lived his life to the fullest. Mike was born on December 2, 1935 to the late Helen and Michael Potojecki in Reading, Pennsylvania. Growing up in a less than wealthy household, Mike learned the quintessential of hard work, teamwork, and family all the while cherishing the value of a dollar. Through this stringent way of life, Mike still managed to play various sports while attempting to aid his family by bringing in extra money. Soon after he graduated from high school, Mike continued his vigorous work ethic and joined the Marines. During his service he specialized as a horizontal engineer operating heavy equipment both on local and foreign grounds. His time in the Marines was honored by all, but his experiences and knowledge gained was proven invaluable to himself. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, and already having lived a life of stories and memories, Mike continued his journey marrying Rose Nigrelli Potojecki, his surviving wife of 54 years. Mike and Rose lived their life in happy harmony and were blessed with three children Kevin, Cindy, and Tina. The Potojecki family lived in Colonial Heights, Virginia while Mike was working for Firestone. After some years, Mike decided to take a career move to Hanover Mills so he and the family then moved to where they currently reside, Danville, VA. Shortly after the move, with an unfortunate string of events Hanover Mills closed and Mike undertook a lifelong dream and opened his own restaurant; therefore, Romi's Subs was founded. During his time at Romi's, Mike met many individuals, made many friends, and enjoyed working with his family and friends. Mikes life was filled with many experiences, countless memories, and unforgettable stories he shared with us all. Mike was survived by his sister Rosalie Loeper, wife Rose Potojecki, three children, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. We Love you so much Pop-Pop, enjoy your time in heaven, until we meet again! A Wake Service will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, October 25 at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 10:00 am with Father Anthony Marques officiating.
