Michael Burke

Mr. Michael Jerome Burke, age 61, died on Thursday, August 29, 2019 after battling cancer for the past 11 years.                Michael was born in Danville on September 28, 1957, a son of Alma Sue Walker Burke of Danville and the late Cecil Jerome Burke.                He was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church and was a graduate of George Washington High School.  Due to ill health Michael had to retire as Visual Art Director at Macys after many years of service.                 Besides his Mother he is survived by his sisters, Vickie Lynn Weaver and her husband Jimmy of Providence, NC and Sheila Burke Comer and her husband Glen of Greensboro, NC.  He is also survived by his nephews, Brandon Weaver and his wife Robin and Justin Weaver and his wife Jessie, a niece Sara Lynn and a number of great- nieces and a great- nephew.                Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 2, 2019 at 11 A.M. from the graveside at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Tim Anderson and Dale Herndon officiating.                The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Sunday, September 1, 2019 from 6 to 8 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence of his Mother.                Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Burke family.  Online condolences may be directed to www.townesfuneralhome.com.
