Mazola Hutson Allen, 99, of Hardy, Virginia passed away on October 11, 2023.
Mazola was born in Danville, Virginia to the late Ethel Oliver Hutson and Frank Matthew Hutson. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her stepfather Oscar Hodges, her husband of 60 years, John R. Allen, Jr., her sister, Margaret Arney, and stepbrother Robert (Bobby) Hodges.
She completed high school and several years of college in Danville, Virginia. She was employed in Dan River Mills for 31 years in the Customer Service Dept. at Hilton Hall.
Mazola was a member of Piney Forest UMC and St. Luke’s UMC, Danville, VA, where she taught Sunday school for 52 years between the two churches. She was also a member of the First UMC in Stuart, Florida and Epworth UMC in Moneta, Virginia.
She loved being a Sunday school teacher. She also taught Brownie and Girl Scouts, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Brydon Kaufmon, Chapter #87, Retired Dan River Club, the Manna Kitchen (mission group in Florida), and Epworth UMC in Moneta Virginia.
Mazola loved her family, and is survived by two daughters, Teresa Allen Rowe (Keith) and Karen Allen Talley (Raymond), two grandsons, Robert Eugene Rowe, and Travis Allen Talley, as well as two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Rowe and Madeline Rowe Lucero (Jason), a great-great granddaughter, Vivianna Rowe. She loved all of her nieces and nephews, Leigh Cowan McIvor, Will (Butch) Cowan, James Clark, Peggy Clark Garner (Jessie), and Randy Clark (Nancy).
It is said that you keep a person’s name alive by saying their name. Mazola’s name will be said and remembered every day. Her great-granddaughter Madeline and husband Jason are expecting a baby girl in February of 2024 and plan to name her after her great-great-grandmother.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Virginia with the Reverend Jeff White officiating. A visitation will be held the same day from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Townes Funeral Home.
