Maude Elizabeth Scruggs Dalton, 97, of Danville, widow of Walter Anderson Dalton, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living. Born in Cliffside, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Lee and Georgia Kelley Scruggs. Maude was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Choir as well as the First Baptist Singing Seniors. She is survived by a son, Walter B. Dalton, and wife, Carol Cousins Dalton; granddaughter, Martha Ellen Dalton; nieces, Betty Travis, Diane Gosey, Faye Pizzulo; nephews, Clyde Dalton and Dr. W. O. Harris, Jr.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Maude was preceded in death by a son, Albert L. Dalton, and a sister, Muriel S. Gosey. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Townes Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be private. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Betty Travis, 302 Turpin Street, Danville, VA 24541. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Brookdale, and extends a special thank you for the love and care given by her sitter, Kimberly Robinson. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
