Mary Elizabeth Younger Moorefield, 84, of Danville went to be with her Savior on Thursday, June 19, 2014. She was the loving wife of Eugene F. Moorefield, Jr. for sixty-five years. Born February 20, 1930 in Charlotte County, Virginia to Raleigh Jackson Younger and Mattie Johnson Younger, Mary was retired from the Sears Roebuck Company after 22 years' service. Mary greatly enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and with friends in The Daniel & Sears Retirement Groups. She was on the Henry Fork Service Center Board of Directors, in the Order of the Eastern Star, was a member & past president of the American Business Women's Association, treasurer of the Danville Cluster of the United Methodist Church & Sears Retirement Group & a member of United Methodist Women. Many will remember Mary for her amazing efforts in coordinating the collection of over a million Campbell's Soup Education Labels for a van to be donated to the Henry Fork Service Center in Rocky Mount, Virginia, later dedicated as "Little Mary's Van". Mary's greatest joy in life was her beloved family and she spent countless hours with and for them. In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children Mary Patricia Allen of Mechanicsville, Lois Yvonne and Ronald (Ron) Davis of Dublin, Eugene III and Emmeline Moorefield of Brookneal and Gary Lee and Myra Moorefield, also of Danville. Mary was preceded in death by her son Martin Younger Moorefield. She is also survived by her five grandchildren Yvonne Elizabeth Allen, Elizabeth Ann Moorefield, Ronald Eugene Davis, Jr., Megan Lee Moorefield and Martin Eugene Moorefield, & great-grandsons Brian Eugene Thomas and Christopher Landon Fry. One of eleven children; Raleigh J. Younger, Jr., John Thomas Younger, Louise Y. Meadows, William P. Younger, Theresa G. Evans, Roy P. Younger, Rosa Lee Hylton, Edward J. Younger, Wayne Younger and Lawson Younger; Mary came right in the middle and loved her siblings dearly. Roy, Rosa, Ed, Wayne and Lawson remain, and will carry her memory fondly. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Fairview United Methodist Church by Reverend Kathleen Monge, with interment to follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church.
