Mary Hudgins Long, 94, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in the Danville Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 6, 1919, in Norristown, PA, a daughter of Archie Hudgins and Anna Flanigan Hudgins. On July 27, 1940, she married Elrod M. Long, who predeceased her on March 14, 1997. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, one sister and son-in-law, Leonard G. Collins. Mary lived most of her life in Danville and worked for the City of Danville in the real estate assessor's office and later served as General Registrar for the city. She was a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Suzanne Wesley Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women Circle #5. Mary was a charter member and past president of the Luncheon Business and Professional Women's Club. She is survived by a son, Richard Glen Long and wife, Debby of Richmond; a daughter, Carolyn Long Collins of Danville; three grandchildren, Michelle C. West and husband, Henry of Blanch, NC, Leonard "Lennie" Collins of Charlotte, NC, and Ashlyn C. Payne and husband, Nathan of Danville; and two great-grandchildren, Ella Payne and Colton Payne. Graveside services will be held at Highland Burial Park, on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Lisa Nordan officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 2, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 148 Oakwood Place.
