Mary Ina Ingram

Mary Ina Russell Ingram, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, January 17, 2023, in Fayetteville, Georgia.

Ina was the daughter of the late Judge Robert Lee Russell, Sr. and Sybil Nannette Millsaps Russell of Winder, Georgia. She grew up in Winder and attended Stratford Hall High School in Danville, Virginia, where she graduated. She then attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia, graduating with a degree in Education.

Ina was married to the late Judge James Franklin Ingram where they resided in Danville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a teacher and taught elementary and high school children over her career. Ina made friendships that lasted a lifetime and was always giving her time and energy back to her community. Ina was a member of the Wednesday Club, the Gabriella Garden Club and was a Master Gardener. She was involved with The Shakespeare Club and was an active member of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America. Additionally, she was one of the first Executive Directors of the Danville Community College Foundation when it was formed. Ina loved to play bridge, and played for many years with her siblings, in-laws, and friends.

Ina is predeceased by her daughter, Ina Carol Ingram McGee, her brothers Robert Lee Russell, Jr., Richard Brevard Russell, III, and sister Betty Russell Vandiver. Her beloved late in-laws: Betty Ann Russell, Ernest Vandiver, and Patricia Russell completed her immediate family support and friendship.

Surviving are two sons, James Franklin Ingram, Jr. (Geri) and Robert Russell Ingram (Christy) as well as her son in law, Matt McGee, brother-in-law Bill Ingram (Carol), four grandchildren- Bo McGee, Jake McGee, Brooke Ingram, and Skylar Ingram, two great-grandchildren- Patrick McGee and Cameron Carol McGee. Numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and their families gave her great joy.

Ina was devotedly involved in her children’s lives, as well as her grandchildren’s lives, who affectionately called her “Muddee”. She was always present, engaged, and enthusiastic at their concerts, sports events, graduations, and any small or large milestone in their lives. She loved her family and community. For her nieces and nephews, she was the “fun” aunt, always up for an adventure.

Funeral services will be held on Monday January 23, 2023, at 2:00pm, at the First Presbyterian Church in Danville, VA. Visitation will be held at 1:00pm at the church, prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Danville, where Ina will join her beloved husband, Jim.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Danville, or to the Russell Family Cemetery, Inc, at PO Box 1433, Winder, Ga 30680.
