Mrs. Martha Young Younger, age 86, of 233 Wyndover Drive passed away at her residence on Thursday, January 31, 2019. She was a life time member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Martha was born in Danville on July 17, 1932 to the late Thomas Earl Young and Cary Harris Young. She is survived by her husband, Roy P. Younger. Roy and Martha met at Ballou Park Pavilion after night school in 1951 and Roy was interested in Martha immediately. Roy asked her for a date, but she said she didn’t know and he followed her home to see where she lived. Eventually Roy and Martha began dating and were married on June 28, 1952; Roy was 18 years old and Martha was 19 years old. Roy had a house built prior to their marriage and they spent the first night of their honeymoon in it. Roy had to sell his car to buy a refrigerator and stove for the new home and had to borrow his father-in-law’s car to take Martha on their honeymoon. After 15 months of marriage, their first child was born; three more were to follow and on June 28, 2018, the couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Martha is survived by her four children; her two daughters Cynthia Huffman (Mike) and Jeanne Weatherford, and her two sons, Preston Younger and Tim Younger (Miki), along with 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Sonny Young, and predeceased by a sister, Katherine Godwin. Martha graduated from George Washington High School and became a bookkeeper for Clark Electric. In 1960, Martha began keeping books for her husband’s companies. Martha kept the books for all of Roy’s companies including Younger Construction and at one time she was keeping the books for seven different companies.
