Martha Blair “B” Hylton, 90, of Danville, VA passed away on May 2, 2019. Born in Danville on June 4, 1928, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Howard Hylton. She was a graduate of Longwood University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She subsequently completed a medical technologist program at the Memorial Hospital of Danville. She began her career as a clinical lab researcher in Atlanta, GA and spent several years living in Maryland while working at the National Institutes of Health. She returned to Danville and worked as a rehabilitation counselor with the VA Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired, a position from which she eventually retired. In this role, she traveled throughout Southwestern VA supporting and advocating for clients as they learned to adapt to life with impaired vision. She was a lifelong and dedicated member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church where she volunteered in several capacities. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Danville Science Center for many years after it initially opened. “B” was a lover and supporter of the arts. She had a wonderful collection of life long friends with whom she traveled frequently, often to visit various art exhibits throughout the US. She had a particular fondness for the American Southwest and traveled there often. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Sue Hylton Wickers. She is survived by her brother in law, Frank Wickers, nephew Clinton Wickers (Sarah), niece Kate Wilson (Dave) and great nephew and niece, Dillon and Blair Wilson. Aunt “B” went above and beyond for her niece and nephew, who considered her a very important part of their lives. She is also survived by a host of cousins and extended family whom she cherished. She was dedicated to maintaining contact with family members and ensuring that family history was well known and documented. The family would like to thank the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living for their care during the last several months. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 107 W.
