Mark Monge

Mark Henry Monge, 64, of Danville, VA, died on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 14, 1950 in Queens, New York, to the late Florence and Henry Monge. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rev. Kathleen Monge; his sister Jayne Monge Campbell of Danville, VA and brother George Monge of Garden Grove, California; daughter, Patricia Monge-Meberg, and her husband Keith of Weems, VA, son, Michael, and his wife Keisha of Suffolk, VA, and daughter, Kay Monge Collier, and her husband Andrew of Montgomery County, MD; and 4 grandchildren, Rebecca and Nathan Meberg, Phillip Collier, and Maddock Monge. Mark graduated from Clarion State College in 1972. He taught elementary school for 2 years in Frederick, MD and 16 ½ years in Virginia, retiring from Danville Public Schools in 2014. He also worked for 20 years as a manager at Kmart and owned Top of the Drive Sporting Goods in Front Royal, VA. Mark was a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church since 1979. He served in many ministries in local churches throughout Virginia, including his favorite, teaching Sunday School. In 2010, he became involved as a volunteer in the Good News Jail & Prison Ministry at the Danville City Jail. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Monday, January 19, at Fairview UMC in Danville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church Playground Fund or the Good News Jail & Prison Ministry of Danville. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 is serving the Monge family.
