Marjorie Foltz Whitmore, 96, formerly of Stratford House, passed away at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, on Saturday, April 20, 2019. She was born on September 12, 1922 in Broadway, Va. to the late Rena and Emmett Foltz. On January 2, 1942, she married Alden W. Whitmore, who predeceased her on October 10, 1980. They moved to Danville in 1968 where Dr. Whitmore was Assistant Superintendent in the Danville Public Schools. After his death, Mrs. Whitmore worked a short while at Averett College and 21 years at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church as their Financial Secretary. She was a member of West Main Baptist Church and the Friendship class. She loved to play golf and was a seamstress. Mrs. Whitmore is survived by one son, Alden W. Whitmore, Jr. and his wife Kathie of Lancaster, SC; a granddaughter, Ami Mills and her husband Earl of Fort Mill, SC; a grandson, Alan Whitmore and his wife Season, of Indian Land, SC; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Thomas E. Foltz, of New Market, VA. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Gary in 1960; a sister; and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at West Main Baptist Church with the Reverend Gary Dalton officiating. Interment will be in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery in Lexington, VA at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 22, 2019, at Townes Funeral Home from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The family gives a special thanks to her caregivers, Susie Kendrick, Jackie Williams and Karen Thomas.
