On August 1st, 2016 Marjorie Daubenspeck Hood was blessed to receive her many years long desire to start her journey where she will be reunited with her beloved husband Mel. Even though Marj was born in Akron Ohio in 1920, she relished being the “true” southern lady enjoying the perks and enduring the tribulations of a woman of her generation. A Kent State University graduate, her life’s journey took her to Buenos Aires, Cali Colombia, Topeka Kansas and her last 50 some years in Danville Her non-professional job was to host and entertain many business associates and friends. She also enjoyed her many community service associations. After having a stroke in 1961 and was partially paralyzed she pushed herself in rehabilitation through painting never complaining always being positive. To her the physical limitations were only an inconvenience. She continued to be a smart, quick-witted woman with unfiltered speech. Her interest included politics, sports and the weather. She was the family’s hurricane/storm tracking chart. Marj had a great sense of humor and led to many discussions/conversations; Many phone calls began by did you “hear what Marj said”. After years of believing that she would never have children became a mother when she gave birth to John who now lives in Charlotte. When John married Marty, Marj embraced Marty’s children Julie and Craig as her own grandchildren. After Bill was born, her devotion to him was one of her main focuses. Due to her declining health the last several year her family is forever grateful for the wonderful personal care given to her by Elizabeth Pannell and her staff at Deans Care Service and also the staff at the Stratford House where she resided for the last 20 years. Marj was preceded in death by her beloved husband H.M. (Mel) Hood and her brother Dick and wife June Daubenspeck.. She is survived by her son John, his wife Marty, grandson Bill all from Charlotte. Also surviving are Julie Whitfield, Karen Bean sons Ross and Pierce of Cary N.C. In Nutley N.J. resides Craig Vaugh, his wife Alla and their son Sasha and daughter Mischa.
