Marion Ann Wardle was born in Philadelphia, PA, on 10 August 1943 to William Dodson Wardle and Laura Evelyn (Watson). Her parents were British and her father served as a marine surveyor for Lloyds of London Insurance. Due to company policy her family relocated every 4 years or so. Marion therefore lived in Long Island, NY, Newport News, VA, Aruba (Netherlands West Indies) and Galveston, Texas while she was growing up. She attended college at the University of Houston and then served as a technician in the Department of Hematology in the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Houston. She always had a great love for pets so in 1983 she decided to leave Texas and purchased Danville Pet Lodge where she boarded and groomed pets. She was especially fond of Irish Setters and began breeding and training them and won certificates and medals in many agility trials in Virginia and neighboring states. Marion served on the Board of the Danville Humane Society for many years, so when she retired from the kennel she joined the Humane Society as Adoption Coordinator. She also did volunteer work for God’s Storehouse. As a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church she served on Parish Council and as a Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. She also brought solace to the residents of local nursing homes and patients at SOVAH as a member of Hearts of Gold Therapy Dogs of Virginia until her illness (ALS) set in. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her brother William (Bill) and his wife Aline of Galveston, TX and her two nephews Gregory Wardle of San Jose, CA and Thomas Wardle (Lyda) and their son Lucas, of Houston, TX. She is also survived by cousin Carol (Don) Macauley of Delaware, Les (Mary) and Ken Wardle of Manitoba, Canada and several other cousins in England. Her family is very grateful to her good friends Cheryl and William Dickerson and Mary Jane and Gary Uitto and many others, including neighbors and member of her church family who supported her during her lengthy illness. Thank you to Commonwealth Hospice of Danville and Prince Charles Home. A Celebration of her life will be held on May 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Mass will be officiated by Rev. Anthony O. Senyah, Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Danville Area Humane Society or God’s Store House. Townes Funeral Home is serving the Wardle family.
