Mrs. Marian (Peggy) Obye, 89, of 1111 Main Street, Apt. 214, passed away peacefully at Danville Regional Medical Center on May 13, 2013 of complications from a fall at her home two months earlier. Peggy was born July 29, 1923 in Storm Lake, IA to the late Vera and Bert Cunningham. She graduated in June, 1945, from Iowa State College in Home Economics. On June 19, 1945 she married Ken Obye, who survives. She lived in Greenville, MS from 1950 to 1967, where she taught 5th grade for several years. She moved to Danville in 1967. She was active in the Greenville Trinity Methodist Church and in the Danville First Presbyterian Church. She was a founding member of Greenville's Community Orchestra and also of the Danville Symphony Orchestra, where she played her 1883 German cello for 19 years. Peggy was a former member of the Wednesday Club and was an avid golfer playing out of Glen Oak Country Club. She and Ken played golf together as they traveled extensively in the States and overseas. She was devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was the prime force in seeing that the entire family could enjoy a week at the beach together every four years for many years. Every Christmas she made peanut brittle that was looked forward to by all recipients. And special occasions called for Peggy to make batches of chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies that gained the reputation among the youngsters as being the best on earth. Peggy is survived by husband, Ken, son Roger Obye and wife Pauline of FL, son Alan Obye and wife Janice of CO, daughter Mary Ann Gould of VA, and daughter-in-law Linda Obye of Danville. She also has five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by son Eric of Danville, and brother John Cunningham of IL, and sister Grace Lee of IA. She was the last living member of her immediate family. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church from 7:00 to 8:30 pm on Friday, May 24, 2013. A celebration of Peggy's life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 25, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Ramey, Jr. officiating, followed by interment in Mountain View Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Danville Symphony Orchestra, P.O.
