Margaret Powell

Margaret Denny Powell died in her home Friday, February 27, 2015. Born in Fincastle, Virginia, April 5, 1916, she moved as a small child to Danville, where she lived the rest of her life. In 1938, she married James Edwards Powell who died in 1996. Mrs. Powell is survived by two daughters, Anne Powell and Laura Powell of Danville. A life-long member of Main Street United Methodist Church until it closed, Mrs. Powell later joined Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. She worked for the Virginia Heart Association and was a long-time volunteer for American Red Cross. She was also a member of the Wednesday Club and the Garden Club of Danville. There will be a family visitation an hour before a memorial service at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Barry Foster officiating. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Danville Area Humane Society or charity of choice. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Powell family.
