Margaret Murphy Poteat, of Providence, North Carolina died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Duke University Medical Center after a brief illness. She left this world as graciously as she lived, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born in Caswell County on December 8, 1929, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Nettie Murphy. She spent her entire life in the Providence community where she was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church. She retired in 1994 from Servitex Linen Service where she worked as a bookkeeper. Margaret was also a past member of the American Business Women's Association and the Business and Professional Women's Association. She is survived by her daughter Susan Cox Humphries and her husband Larry of Danville, a son Keith Poteat and his partner Barry Howard of Chapel Hill, NC, two sisters Ruth Wyatt and Linda Beamon. She also leaves behind two granddaughters whom she adored Margaret and Laura Cox. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sister Jewel Lovell and her best friend Margaret Pyrant. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Providence Baptist Church with Reverend Lee Cook officiating. The family will be at the home at 5837 Walters Mill Road, Providence, NC 27315. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Providence Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5762 Walters Mill Road, Providence NC 27315 or Providence Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 93, Providence, NC 27315. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Poteat family.
