Margaret "Peggy" Bryant

November 11, 1935 — February 13, 2023

Peggy Bryant, most recently of 203 Birchwood Road, Danville, VA, received eternal peace on February 13, 2023, after two years of declining health. She was born on November 11, 1935, in Pittsylvania County to Clinton Maxwell “Mac” Boulware and Margaret “Rita” Anne Fisher Main Boulware. Mrs. Bryant attended Jack and Jill Private School in the home of Mabel Berry, from whom she also took piano lessons, from kindergarten through second grade. She then attended county schools and graduated from Schoolfield High School at age 15 in 1951 before turning 16 in November. After high school Peggy attended Danville Technical Institute where she completed the required courses of technical training in Secretarial Science for which she received her certificate on August 13, 1953.

After completing her course work, Peggy worked for many years in the insurance office of J. P. “Pete” Wells (John Roane, Inc.). While there she became licensed to transact business as an agent of automobile and life insurance in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She worked at other local insurance agencies until she moved to Greensboro, NC with her husband in February 1974.

On June 24, 1955, Peggy married her husband of 53 years, Frank Sager Bryant, who pre-deceased her on August 27, 2008. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Lynn Bryant, with whom she has lived since September 2021. She is also survived by her beloved grandson, Jason David Bryant Adkins, his wife Louisa, and their two sons, Perry Sager Adkins (20 months) and Preston David Adkins (3 months), of Richmond, VA. Peggy is also survived by a special cousin-in-law, Rebecca Jean Boulware, and her daughters Gwen Boulware Burner and Teresa Boulware Hyler and their children. She is also survived by a special nephew by marriage, Philip Wayne Bryant, and his family.

In addition to her husband and parents, Peggy was pre-deceased by two double-first cousins, William “Billy” Coleman Boulware and John “Johnny” Douglas Boulware, Jr. as well as several Boulware and Main aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Peggy was of the Christian faith having grown up attending Stokesland Methodist Church then being one of the original congregants of Northview Presbyterian Church with her husband and daughter. During the last 25 years, Peggy attended First Baptist and College Park Baptist Churches.

As an adult, Peggy was an avid bowler, an accomplished Bridge and Rook player, and a skilled craftsman of beautiful cross-stitched, knitted, and crocheted items that are cherished by a multitude of family members and friends. She was well-known as an accomplished cook, baker, and fudge-maker, so much so that family and friends requested certain special dishes, cakes, pies, and fudge for Christmas gifts. There was little she enjoyed more than preparing wonderful meals for family and friends.

A graveside service will take place at Danville Memorial Gardens on February 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM, with visitation immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests (per her wishes) that donations be made in her memory to the Danville Life Saving and Rescue Crew, Danville Area Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
