Margaret Milam

Margaret H. Milam, 83, passed on Friday, January 19, 2024. She grew up in Griffin, Georgia and was proud to attend the First Girl Scout Roundup in 1956 in Dearborn, Michigan. Margaret graduated from Agnes Scott College, Decatur, GA and was a schoolteacher in Danville City and Pittsylvania County Schools. She obtained her master’s degree in education from Averett College. Margaret married Harry Milam in Danville in 1965. She was an active member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, the Danville Garden Club, and the Danville Wednesday Club. She was a master gardener. She was an avid animal lover and valued quality time with family. She was a friend of everyone, even strangers.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Harry D. Milam of nearly 60 years, her four children, Kirk T. Milam (Karen) of Rappahannock, Holley Lewis (Scott) of Midlothian, Mark Milam of Sutherlin, and Glenn Milam (Angela) of Sutherlin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dustin Milam (Rui) of Oakton, K.T. Milam of Front Royal, Tanner Lewis of Austin, Texas, Anna Milam of Flint Hill, Mason Lewis of Charlottesville, Hollyn Milam of Sutherlin, Hayden Milam of Lexington, Rhys Milam of Rappahannock, and Cole Milam of Sutherlin.

Visiting hours will be held at Townes Funeral Home, 215 W. Main Street, Danville, VA 24541 on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A private burial will be held in spring 2024. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Laurel Grove Voluntary Fire Department, PO Box 26, Sutherlin, VA 24594 or Mount Vernon United Methodist Church Foundation, Scholarship Fund, 107 West Main Street, Danville, VA 24541.
