Maggie Stephens Collis of Stratford House in Danville, Virginia and more recently of Snyder Nursing Home in Salem, Virginia passed Sunday evening, November the 30th. Maggie was born June 6, 1917, in Danville. She was the daughter of James Arthur Thomas and Levada Royal Thomas. She was the last surviving member of her birth family which included one brother and seven sisters. She was first married to Arnie W. Stephens who predeceased her in 1957. Approximately 10 years later she married Henry H. Norton, Sr., who passed in 1981. She married a third time to Harry M. Collis in 1998 who passed in 2009 She was also predeceased by two of her sons, Thomas Richard Stephens and Willie Arnie Stephens, and one daughter-in-law, Donna Jones Stephens (wife of Tommy). Survivors include her remaining son, Dr. Nathan Charles Stephens and his wife Ann Kline Stephens, of Salem, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Linda Singleton Stephens of Harrisonburg, Virginia; step-daughter, Yvonne Haraway (Harold) of Danville, Virginia; step-son, Ron Collis (Marlys) of Richmond, Virginia; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Maggie received her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Certificate in April 1962, and was employed by Danville Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was an active member of the Retirees Club of Danville Regional Medical Center, having served as president for one term and as treasurer for seven years. She was a member of Moseley Memorial Methodist Church where she was a choir member and served as president of the United Methodist Women for four years. Funeral services will be held at Moseley Memorial Methodist Church on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Lisa Nordan officiating. The family will receive friends and family at Moseley Memorial Methodist Church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be private. The family would like to deeply thank Snyder's Nursing Home for the loving and exquisite care Maggie received in her final months.
