Mae Humphrey Allen, 99, was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, James “Jimmie” Lee Allen, on April 5, 2018.  A daughter of Alpha Mae Leonard Humphrey and Henry Hilliard Humphrey, she was born in Inman, SC on May 5, 1918.  Orphaned at the age of 10, she was raised by her cousins, Mellie and Dudley Golightly.      She was the youngest of four children and is predeceased by two brothers, Henry Humphrey, Jr. and Leonard Humphrey, and one sister, Edna Humphrey Ferree.      She loved her children, Penny Allen Borup (Joe) of Olive Branch, MS, Vickie Allen Fuquay (Daniel) of Danville, VA and Len Allen also of Danville, with all her heart.      Mae worked for many years as a secretary at Dan River Mills in Schoolfield, located close to her husband’s jewelry  store, Allen’s of Schoolfield, prior to her retirement in 1983.      She was a charter member of Rivermont Baptist Church, working with their children’s ministry for many years, and was later an active member of West Main Baptist Church, leading several senior church trips and serving as deacon.      Mae also leaves behind five grandchildren, John Borup (Kim), Mark Borup, Melissa Fuquay, Lauren Fuquay Gardner (Dan) and Raelyn Allen, eight great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, a special niece and loving caregiver, Margaret Humphrey Motley (Phillip), and therapy dogs, Whim, Berkley and Eve.      The family wishes to thank Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care for the outstanding care she received during her time as a resident.  The staff and residents of North East quickly became her extended family.      Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 3 pm at Townes Memorial Chapel with Joel R. Deboe officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.      The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm and at other times will be at the residence of Vickie and Daniel Fuquay, 222 Oakmont Trail.      Memorial donations in memory of Mae Allen may be made to God’s Pit Crew, 2499 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540.
