Mabel Lewis

Mabel Dalton Lewis passed away on September 4, 2019 at the age of 95 at her home in Danville, VA. She was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on May 18, 1924 and is survived by her husband James A. Lewis to whom she was married for 76 years. She is also survived by her children, Patsy Barr (John), Nancy Lindsey, Charles Lewis, Keith Lewis (Kim). Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.      She was predeceased by her parents, Otha Pettrice Dalton and Gracie Crowder Dalton, as well as five of her seven siblings.  Predeceasing her were her brothers, Abner, Wilbur, Kenneth, and Carson Dalton, and her sister Bertha Shelton. Her surviving brothers are Earl and James Dalton.       Mabel was a member of First Baptist Church in Danville. Her faith and her family were the two most important things in her life, shaping any decisions she made. She was a fabulous cook and an avid gardener and for a number of years she was employed by the Danville Public Schools as a school secretary.      The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 7 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Carroll officiating and the Rev. Angela Zimmerman assisting. Visitation will take place at 1:00 - 1:45 at the church prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.      In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church, 871 Main Street, Danville, VA 24541 or Grace and Main Ministries, 228 Broad Street, Danville, VA 24541.
