Mabel Lester

Mabel George Lester, 91 of 222 Courtland Street, died Monday, February 25, 2013 in the Danville Regional Medical Center. Born on January 21, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Francis Lafayette George and Lula Belle Burnette George. She was educated in the Franklin County graduating from Glad Hill High School in 1941. She attended the Nursing School at Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke, VA. She retired from Dan River Inc. in 1975. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Frank L. George, Calvin L. George and William Keesee; three sisters, Essie Keesee, Doris Rigney and Beulah Doss. She is survived by three sons, Victor Neal Adkins and his wife Mary, Jennings E. Lester and his wife Janice, and Anthony "Tony" Lester and his wife Donna; a daughter, Diane Lester Gentry; a sister, Elsie Jeanne George, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at11:00 AM on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Townes Memorial Chapel with Reverend Walter Yancey officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM before the funeral on Thursday and at other times at the residence of her son, Tony Lester, 448 Red Marshall Road, Pelham, NC.
