On Saturday, August 3, 2024, Lynda Hardy Rogers departed this world to reunite with her mother, Emma Evans Hardy, her father, Howard Stanley Hardy, her sister, Brenda Hardy Hauser and all the dogs she loved over the course of her life.
Born in Danville, Virginia on February 17, 1949, Lynda graduated from George Washington High School in 1967 and attended Averett University for one year before entering the work force. She served as Deputy Clerk of the Danville Circuit Court, a legal secretary for the Honorable T. Ryland Dodson and later an associate realtor with Bill Jones Realty.
It was while working as a Deputy Clerk that Lynda met J. Patterson (J. P.) Rogers, 3rd, whom she married on April 29, 1973, and six years later she embarked on potentially her most rewarding, satisfying, and important job, that of a mother.
Several years later, Lynda returned to school, obtaining a degree in psychology from Averett University and a masters’ degree in education from Lynchburg University. However, she was unable to establish her own long-dreamed of classroom due to a series of unfortunate mounting health conditions that she valiantly battled for the remainder of her life.
A strong, resilient, and occasionally single-minded, woman, Lynda loved the Lord, her family, all the world’s dogs, and her church, Trinity United Methodist, fiercely. While she frequently entertained herself with books, crossword puzzles, and gospel music, some of her greatest joys and serenity could be found in long walks on the beach or hosting family gatherings.
In addition to her husband, Lynda is survived by her son, James Adam Hampden Rogers of Arlington, Virginia, as well as two nephews, James Carroll Hauser (Kelli) of Danville, Virginia and John Ellis Hauser, III (Janel), of Pelham, North Carolina, along with two great-nieces, Leslie Hauser Martin (Daniel) and McKenzie N. Hauser, and a great-great nephew and great-great niece.
Services for Lynda will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm at the church. The Reverend Mike Hearp and the Reverend Barbara A. Cousar will be officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Danville Humane Society are requested.
