Lucy Francis Scarce, age 87 died on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after a nine-year decline in health. Mrs. Scarce was born in Danville on June 3, 1925, a daughter of the late James Madison Francis and Worta Belle Thomas Francis. Mrs. Scarce was a graduate of Averett College and managed the office of Dr. Joseph Milam for over thirty years. She was member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church for over sixty years. She was married to her beloved John Wesley Scarce who died in 2001. She was proceeded in death by her sisters: Annie Smith, Ethel Francis, Nelle Still, Katie Francis, Julia Grant, and Belle Steele; and brothers: Joseph Francis, James Francis, and David Francis and one niece, Ann Arnold. She is survived by her nieces; Jean S. Lewis of Virginia Beach, VA, Katherine S. Dunnavant of Cary, NC and Beth F. Griffith of Washington, DC, and her nephews, William Still, JR of Cascade, VA, David W. Francis, Jr. of Christiansburg, VA, Thomas Francis of Birmingham AL, Edward Grant, JR of Palm Coast, FL and James Grant of Silver Springs, Maryland. Mrs. Scarce was also survived by a number of special friends: Robert and Ann Adcock, and Judy Dalton Mills, and her Roman Eagle friends Evelyn Henry, Donna Webb, Bessie Hubbard, Elerisa Warner; and Carlene Collins; and the children of Dr. Milam. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with the Reverend Barry Foster officiating. Interment will be private. A visitation will be held in the church parlor at 10:00 A.M. Enter on the South Main Street parlor door. Memorial contributions may made to Mt.
