Lucy Burgess

Mrs. Lucy Elizabeth Burgess, age 93 died on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She had been at resident at Roman Eagle for the past three and one half years. Mrs. Burgess was born in Alton, VA on February 6, 1920, a daughter of the late John Ellis Smith and Mable Holt Smith. She was a life long member of Fairview United Methodist Church and was retired from Dan River, Inc. as a designer. Mrs. Burgess was married to the late Herman Miles Burgess who died July 24, 1992. Mrs. Burgess is survived by two daughters; Sue Burgess Davis and her husband Michael of Sutherlin and Amee Miles Burgess of Sutherlin and her fiancee Dailey Harris. Also surviving are one granddaughter, Ashley Davis Gravett and her husband Larry of Danville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from the graveside at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Reverend Jeff Wright officiating. The family respectfully requests that memorials may be directed to the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc., 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541. The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Sue Burgess Davis and her husband Michael, 7486 South Boston Highway, Sutherlin, VA. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Burgess family.
